Small museum, not many frills... but who needs (or wants!) frills when it comes to medieval torture! Very affordable (only €6.50/adult). Interesting displays with many placards in both German and English. A walk through this place and you'll be happy you're living in 2022 rather than 1522!

Museum is great! Atmosphere is great and thematic. You can see a lot of instruments for torture and read everything about them which is really interesting. It is not expensive. I really enjoyed it!

I always get impressed by the creativity of people in the medieval ages when it comes to creating incredibly strange but certainly working torture methods.

While the exhibits are numerous, the way they’re displayed leaves a lot to be desired. For starters, there’s no floor plan and the order seems arbitrary. Then there are the descriptions which contain abysmal grammar and punctuation mistakes – and have not been touched since the 1990s. Another irritating issue is the lighting. I accept that not all museums have to be brightly lit, but instead of setting an appropriate mood, the multicoloured lighting made the place look like the weirdest disco you’ll ever see. Also, there were quite some references to modern torture but remained. They should dedicate a part of the museum to that instead. As I’m not really familiar with the intricate details of medieval torture, it wouldn’t surprise me to find factual errors too. For example, the Iron Maiden’s questionable authenticity wasn’t mentioned at all.

Cool and very interesting artifacts and knowledge about the history of torture worth a stop. Better lightning could have made it more enjoyable and a better ventilation could have help the moldy smell there was on some areas.

I would not recommend it. I was actually looking forward visiting this little museum but was really disappointed. The museum was really small and we was through the entire museum in just less than 20 minutes. It might have been a better experience if you are German or is able to read German. All the English signs were filled with misspellings and sentences that just stopped and sometimes simply just nonsense. So it was extremely hard to understand and seemed to be a bit amateurish. I would not recommend this museum even though the subject is interesting.

The museum is not that big so you can easily make it a quick visit. It can be quite shocking, but I think it's good to know these kind of things.
